ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

At Vincent Massey, we work to ensure that all children receive an education that prepares them for all aspects of life. We understand that a well balanced education spans well beyond teaching students basic literacy and numeracy skills.  We believe that the incorporation of enrichment activities is a necessity in the development of the whole child.

Our enrichment programs are offered on a weekly or bi-weekly basis; as outlined on your child's individual monthly calendar.

Yoga and meditation can be an important practice for people of all ages, but recently, there has been an increased need for children to develop skills to cope and escape from the stimulation of their daily lives.

In a time where social media is finding its way into how we see and view ourselves and others, it is important to equip children with healthy habitats in self-care, relaxation, and personal fulfillment. Our Young Minds Yoga program helps encourage self-esteem and body awareness from a young age with a non-competitive physical activity. The skills mindfulness and yoga offer will support children physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally as they navigate the stresses of life.

Other benefits for children:

  • Builds balance and coordination
  • Promotes emotional awareness and ability to manage emotions
  • Encourages calmness
  • Releases stress and anxiety
  • Increases concentration and focus
  • Promotes self-regulation

We believe teaching children about food and nutrition from an early age will set the stage for a lifetime of healthy, mindful eating. Our Kids in the Kitchen cooking program is a hands-on, nose-on, and minds-on learning experience for all!

Our program offers children a practical and engaging way to teach kids basic life skills, as well as academic skills involving reading, science, math, and creative expression. Cooking class allows children to gain knowledge on the importance of healthy eating while encouraging them to make healthy choices now and in the future.

Cooking as Science: Cooking covers all aspects of an experiment from making predictions and observing to investigating and drawing conclusions. It opens the child to the physical manifestation of changes in matter, temperature changes, and combining different products to make something new.

Cooking as Math: Following a recipe contains measuring, weighing, counting, sorting, and timing. It sparks discussion about shapes, sizes, and quantities.

Cooking as Language: Cooking in a group setting allows for constant communication between members of the classroom with ample opportunity for language development and discovery.

Cooking as an educational tool prompts time to investigate, manipulate, question, and seek answers at the child’s own pace.

Reinforcing healthy physical activity habits is an integral aspect of developing the whole child. Our physical education program aims to facilitate sports development, functional movement and agility, cooperative games, and team-building activities into his programming that are age and developmentally appropriate.  Our physical education program sets the tone for a lifetime of activity in a non-competitive and interactive setting.

Music ignites all areas of child development and skills for school readiness including intellectual, social and emotional, motor, language, and overall literacy. Our music enrichment program gives students the opportunity to sing and dance to the rhythm and beat of our specialized music teacher, James Funny Hat. James offers an engaging program that encourages students to express themselves creatively and freely. His classes are always much anticipated by teachers and students alike!

Learning french is made enjoyable and approachable through our interactive french program starting in our Toddler Programs. Children get the opportunity to engage in songs, poems, puppet stories and more to help them set a foundation in french.

Our cultural and character education aims to educate young children to recognize variances in cultures and people through celebration, food, art, storytelling, and group discussions. This approach encourages acceptance and understanding of all cultures while allowing personal development and reflection.

Character education is embedded in the everyday teachings of Vincent Massey. Through modeling, class discussions, facilitated conversation, and storytelling, teachers are able to address character traits that help children learn to be responsible, caring, and contributing citizens. From mindfulness and gratitude to compassion and resourcefulness, our goal is to help students become more self-aware.
