OUR LEARNING PHILOSOPHY

The first few years set the foundation for learning for the rest of a child’s life.

Vincent Massey provides a play-and inquiry-based, cross- curricular education in which students are presented with the opportunity to explore many different avenues of learning. Vincent Massey promotes confident, curious, resourceful learners who respect and value the individual differences of their peers.

The development of each student to reach their individual potential is the basis of all programs at Vincent Massey.  We believe that a child’s potential is best met by setting a foundation that prepares them for all aspects of life, not just academia. The development of the whole child widens the scope of learning and provides a diverse, well-rounded education in social, physical, and emotional aspects of life.

BELONG

Our commitment to the development of the whole child is made possible by creating and maintaining a place where children have a sense of belonging. Vincent Massey believes in facilitating an environment where children feel invited, accepted, and loved to ensure children are able to establish a strong sense of acceptance among their teachers and peers. Students and teachers who feel a part of the classroom community are able to focus on building healthy relationships and facilitate a cooperative and honest environment suitable for learning.

Our goal as educators is to create a space where students are comfortable and content in their home away from home.

EXPLORE

Exploration and play provides the most natural and authentic approach for children to develop as the whole child. The process of exploring through play allows children to construct knowledge, practice various skills, and express themselves creatively as they immerse themselves in their rich learning environment.

Engaging in experiential- and play-based learning has many social and cognitive benefits. When children explore together they learn to cooperate, collaborate, and communicate. Through the development of these skills, children are able to build motivation and confidence as independent and creative thinkers.

LEARN

Vincent Massey is dedicated to development of the whole child through our play-and inquiry-based curriculum, cultural and character education, and enrichment programs. Learning is made approachable and engaging by our teachers who specialize in facilitating learning environments that meet the needs of all students. Teachers develop programming based on the interests, needs, and development levels of the students in their classroom, ensuring a well-balanced education for everyone.

Our teachers create their own weekly and monthly program plans that incorporate student interest, seasonal activities, and age specific learning throughout their day. This guided curriculum structure gives teachers the ability to build their classroom activities the following development objectives:

  • Literacy and Numeracy
  • Language & Communication
  • Fine & Gross Motor Skills
  • Creative Expression
  • Music & Movement
  • Block and Dramatic Play
  • Social & Emotional Development

"PLAY IS OFTEN TALKED ABOUT AS IF IT WERE A RELIEF FROM SERIOUS LEARNING. BUT FOR CHILDREN, PLAY IS SERIOUS LEARNING. PLAY IS REALLY THE WORK OF CHILDHOOD."
